On the other hand, with 12 years of existence, members of the YFEL program have significantly contributed to the community each year, having consistently worked on new project concepts and contributed to sustainability-related initiatives.

For example, two 2012 YFEL members joined the 2012 International Antarctica Expedition (IAE) team for 16 days to highlight sustainability and the need to preserve the icy continent. Also, a group of young professionals and students from the 2011-2012 YFEL program played a significant role in the delivery of the 543 KWe photovoltaic (PV) solar power project that was commissioned in July 2014 at the Rashid Abdullah Omran Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. In 2015, a group of 10 YFEL members introduced several community-wide initiatives in collaboration with 10 students from the Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, in the Central Java province of Indonesia.

The 2018 YFEL members produced a number of novel concepts including the ‘You are the Future’ project that helped the UAE high school students in choosing the right career while offering mentorship, and the ‘Power Bag’ project that hosted workshops to raise awareness among youth about the importance of sustainable lifestyles, benefiting 148 students in two Brazilian schools.

Over the years, the YFEL program has enjoyed the support of several prominent Emirati individuals, as well as corporates in the UAE and abroad. Notable among them was the Emirati philanthropist His Excellency Sultan bin Rashed Al Dhaheri who had supported the YFEL program for two consecutive years with a contribution of US$1 million each year. The first-ever individual financial contribution of AED1 million for the YFEL program came from Emirati philanthropist Mohammed Bin Salem Bin Kardous Al-Ameri.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) had sponsored the YFEL program for five successive years. Previous sponsors include Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Dolphin Energy. In addition, several international corporations, as well as institutions such as the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), Tokyo University, the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK), and German companies such as BASF, Siemens Energy, Bilfinger and Wintershall Dea have sponsored and continue to support the YFEL program.
